HISTORY :
Back in 1998, the first Nanoloop version for the old Dot Matrix Game Boy was released. Distribution started in 1999 (version 0.8) and continued till 2004 (version 1.2). In 2004, the old version had to be stopped due to supply problems and was replaced by the entirely new version 2.1 for Game Boy Advance. However, despite the populatity of 2.1, there was a continious demand for the unique rough sound of the old Game Boy models and the simplicity of the old nanoloop versions. To meet this demand, a new version 1.3 of nanoloop for the old Game Boy models has been developed.

NANOLOOP 1.3

Nanoloop 1.3 is a simple sequencer program which allows to control the Game Boy’s built-in sound generators through a minimalistic graphical interface. Beeing a stepsequencer, nanoloop plays a pattern of 16 1/16 notes in an endless loop, while notes can be set, edited and deleted.
The idea of nanoloop is to simplify the stepsequencer concept as far as possible while still keeping -and hopefully even increasing- the gamesome, yet addicitve character of loop-based music creation.
The Game Boy’s four sound generators (two rectangular waves, custom wave form and noise) are represented by four channels which are controlled indepentently. Each channel’s patterns can be saved to file slots in nanoloop’s onboard flash memory and are then available for mixing new combinations or song arrangement.

NANOLOOP 2.2

nanoloop 2.2 works on all regions’ Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Advance SP, Game Boy Micro, DS, DS lite and Game Cube player (for Game Boy Advance games).

Nanoloop 2.2 is an 8-channel stepsequencer and synthesis package with a minimalistic and easy to use graphical interface. Besides the typical Game Boy “lofi” sounds, more advanced synthesis features, such as filters, are available.
The reduced set of controls allows to create and tweak sounds quickly, but also provides functionality needed for more complex structures.
